Autumnal Equinox

Fall is officially here. It started around 4:21 AM in my part of the world. Today we're supposed to have equal parts day and night or very close to it. The days have been getting shorter and very soon, they'll be much shorter. I don't like the colder temperatures on their way, but I do get more writing done when the sun isn't calling me to go outside. Want to know how much daylight you're losing? Check out this chart.

September's birthstone, the sapphire, was once thought to protect the wearer from snakes. I know snakes are a common fear for lots of people so think about getting a pretty sapphire ring or bracelet maybe. Or better, an ankle bracelet.

The first episodes of Blindspot and Minority Report intrigued me so I'll be watching them again. And Limitless deserves a chance too. Notice how many of the shows I like have supernatural or science fiction elements? Add to Doctor Who, Grimm, and Once Upon a Time to the list and you'll see I have a favorite theme.

Hopefully, all of my fellow Americans are braced for the next fourteen months of election overload. This quote is something to keep in mind when listening to politicians.

"Man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that the sometimes has to eat them."
Adlai Stevenson

I hope you're working on your short story for inclusion in the IWSG anthology. Deadline is November 1st. Read the guidelines.

My publisher has made another of my space opera romance series into a boxed set available on Amazon.  All three Warriors of Gaviron books are at one reasonable price so I'm hoping it kicks up some sales.

Any new shows catch your eye this week? Dreading the shorter days? Bracing for endless political ads?

Hi Susan - ours began at 8.21 am here - and it's a glorious sunny clear blue day - after yesterday's rain ... I'm glad if the Autumn stays like this - but I doubt! Elections they do hang around don't they ... I try not to get hooked on shows ... but I've been watching the heats for the Great British Menu - when the four winners each cook one course in celebration this year of the Women's Institute, which is 100 years old ... some creative ideas are great - others are well ... debatable and won't get through! I hope to do a post anon on it .. cheers Hilary

I always have mixed feelings this time of year. Fall is my favorite season, with all the colors, smells, yummy foods. But saying 'hello' to fall means saying goodbye to the calmer time of summer and the knowledge that frigid winter is on its way. Our winter was soooooo incredibly long last year. And ooh, I really linked Blindspot. It will be interesting to see where they go with it.

Bring on the cold! Don't like heat and humidity.
Cool you have a boxed set now.
And when does that new book come out?

I love this time of year. It's feeling very fall like in London. Not a fan of summer at all. Congrats on the boxed set!

I too wrote about Autumn today though I don't know when Autumn officially begins here in the UK. Yours was excellent to read, also good luck with your "Boxed Set."

After 90 degrees in my apartment, I'll take the cold for a while. Shows with a touch of fantasy or sci-fi are more fun than the run of the mill cop crap shows any day.

It's beautiful here. Still warm but at least the nights are comfy.

re: politicking
I can always put the politicians on mute when they come on tv. Unfortunately, it's not so easy with friends who insist on sharing their politics on social media.

I always like when it's lighter earlier in the day - I'm more of a morning person.

Haven't watched any new shows/returning premieres yet, but Blindspot is on my list of ones to watch.

I am going decorate my entire house with sapphires. Inside and out. Also, I shall invest in a suit made of sapphires!

I watched Blindspot, and while I wasn't overly impressed, I'll give it another episode or two before I decide. I am finally all caught up on Once Upon A Time. I can't wait for the new season to start!

I was happy to see Doctor Who back, but I haven't watched any other new shows yet. I'm a bit interested in a few, but I like having my nights free to read or write.

The election season makes me want to curl up into a ball and cry. I can't stand another year of this. You know, in other countries, the election cycle is only months long. Why can't we do that? WHY?

Happy autumn. I hope there are some more good television shows.

I can't stand the political ads that we still get, even though we don't watch cable tv. It's crazy to me that they show up everywhere - and I just deleted half my rant against political ads that I had here. Sigh. Ugh. Sorry. Once Upon a Time is awesome. I need to check out the others. And, although I like fall, I don't like waking up in the dark, which I'm already doing these days.

How with your books in the set! Good luck with it! It is going to be a long political season I do believe! Maybe will be time to turn off the TV and do more reading :) I don't like to drive at night so I do miss when it is light later; gave me more opportunity to get out and do things.

I love it when the heat of summer is released. My roses are blooming and some of my favorite wild flowers are blooming.
Great news about the box set. Congatulations.

With temps where I am in the 90's now and in the upcoming week I'm looking forward to the colder weather. Of course cold in L.A. is nowhere like cold where you are.

So far I checked out Blindspot and Limitless, also Rosewood -- I usually give a new series two episodes and then decide whether or not to continue. I'm already hooked on several series like Gray's Anatomy, Empire and Nashville (and yes, I do watch Survivor and Amazing Race--I can't seem to stop).

I have already purchased the first 2 books in the set. Will The warrior and the professor be offered on its own at some point, I hope? I really enjoyed the first two books. Thx

Hi Susan. The Warrior and the Professor is available solo only on my publisher's website for now. I'm not sure when it will be available at Amazon or others.
New Concepts Publishing offers it in a variety of formats and at a discounted price if you buy direct. I'm so glad you like the series. It was my favorite to write so far and the last book really came together to answer all the questions.
